Early September

This month, Milo was again evaluated at UNC Hospitals for developmental delays.  This is common practice with preemies, and he had been going every six months with fine results.  This month, however, the doctors noted that Milo was not progressing as fast as they wished.  His speech, especially, is behind.  The doctors told me that a normal 16 month old baby (Milo's corrected age) should have 25 consistent words.  Milo only has 5-8.  He goes later this month to get a hearing test to make sure that the delay isn't caused because he can't hear us (He's had a lot of ear infections, so this isn't unlikely).  He'll be starting Early Intervention soon, where they will show us how to maximize our play time with him to help him catch up on the other stuff as well (fine motor skills aren't great, etc).  The doctors insisted that these delays are very subtle and that Early Intervention should be just what Milo needs to get back on track!

"I'm not really sleeping!"

There's this gourmet foods store in Chapel Hill where we live called A Southern Season.  They have great candies, baked goods, wines, coffees, etc.  Anyway, we were in there to get my favorite chocolate chip scones and I saw this fabulous chocolate cake with coconut in the frosting.  It was three dollars for a slice, but it just looked so good, so I bought it.  The girl who checked me out put the cake on top so it wouldn't get squished.  And I set the bag next to Milo on the back seat.  While I was driving home I could hear him rustling the bag around, but I figured it would be fine since the cake was wrapped in saran wrap.  Until I looked in the rear view mirror and saw him flinging the wrap aside.  I knew it wouldn't be pretty when we got home.  But just in case you're wondering, frosting comes out of car seats just fine with warm, soapy water.  And he did save me two little bites, so it wasn't a total loss (I was torn between being charmed and amused and wanting to scold him)!
